I’m a sucker (pun intended) for matte lipsticks and I have every intention of purchasing at least one matte lipstick from every brand out there (what a dream, right?), starting with liquid lipsticks.
I have been eyeing the Sleek Makeup Ultra Smooth Matte Lip Cream line for months now, specifically the shades Birthday Suit, Bittersweet, Shabby Chic, and Velvet Slipper. Luckily, Tellie gave me this tube of Birthday Suit that she had extra, just lying around.
Birthday Suit is a classic wearable nude. The light as air texture provides you with comfortable wear for hours that doesn’t cake, flake or dry out, ensuring long lasting color all day.
I’m all for the wearable nude as that is the reason why I wanted this shade in the first place and that is in fact true—even against my NC40 skintone (and to all my medium/dark-toned friends out there, we all know that there are a lot of so-called ‘wearable nudes’ that don’t really come out as ‘wearable’ on us). BUT… this definitely does not have a light as air texture and this does not provide comfortable wear for hours.
I had to layer this twice because it’s patchy as hell on one swipe and on the first layer, it felt like it sucked all the life out of my lips. That’s how extremely drying and matte this shit is. And because it’s super matte, it also emphasized the lines on my lips sooo much. That bit didn’t bother me a lot as many other liquid lipsticks tend to do the same but with this one, it was just so fucking obvious that I just… could not.
The packaging and overall ‘feel’ of this reminded me a lot of the Matte in Detail Liquid Lipsticks, and you know what? I basically experienced the same issues that I had with those with this one. Not that the packaging has anything to do with the formula but it the coincidence did not go unnoticed.
Tackiness Getting Worse After Eating/Drinking: Check!
Long-lasting: Okay, yes, but with the other factors checked, I wouldn’t want to have this on my list longer than 3 or 4 hours, anyway.
The only difference is that this wasn’t flaky (thank god) and this contains more product. Otherwise, they pretty much performed the same way—a performance that does not deserve a standing ovation or a round of applause.
Too bad because this is a nearly-perfect dupe for my all-time nude pink favorite which is MAC Mehr (just look at how similar they are based on my swatches). But hey, you know what they say, you can’t have ’em all.
